Discretion for maximum Protection
Armoured vehicles have been among the CARO core competencies since the company was founded. The basis was formed by individualized security concepts for luxury-class limousines designed for an international market. Nowadays transporters for valuables are just as much a part of our offer as the armouring of motorcoaches.
No matter which type of vehicle: CARO does not restrict itself to the standards in levels of protection provided by B4 - B7. Instead, an individualized security concept is developed on the basis of the client's personal security requirements and matched to meet the vehicle specifications for the intended country. Of paramount importance hereby: discretion! A factor that applies of course not only to the client themself, but above all to the vehicle being delivered, one which as a rule cannot be distinguished from the customary series model.
The Secret: As inconspicuous as possible
The most important maxim for persons in need of protection is: discretion. That applies to the vehicle involved too, and is simultaneously the greatest challenge facing coachbuilders. One shouldn't be able to note a difference between an armoured limousine and a series-model vehicle. A field in which CARO is especially proficient. In accordance with the clients' individual security requirements (B4-B7), CARO modifies standard vehicles in such a way that they can hardly be distinguished from the original, yet at the same time offer optimal protection in all sectors relevant to security. |

Project Documentation: Individualized armour plating
of a Mercedes-Benz 0560 at the "B6 Backing Plus" level

SCOPE OF PROJECT
A vehicle was to be provided for a personage in a developing country whose safety was endangered. The vehicle was to enable journeys lasting several days in regions without an infrastructure. It was supposed to be able to transport an appropriate entourage and especially include the possibility for overnight accommodations. This special option was to be aptly suited to the security needs of the person to be protected - even in extreme situations. |

SECURITY CONCEPT
A Mercedes-Benz Type 0560 motorcoach was chosen as the basic vehicle. An armour-plated compartment at the security level B6 Backing Plus was conceived for the middle sector, taking such constructional details as axle loads etc. into consideration. The "secure cabin" was separated from the front and rear compartments via two armour-plated walls. The cabin's side walls, roof and an inserted false floor were reinforced with special-purpose steel. All parts armoured with steel additionally received a fastidiously applied anti-fragment protection (Backing Plus). The standard panes within the cabin area were replaced with specially designed panes made of shatterproof, bulletproof glass. |

Lasers working from hand-cut templates are used to manufacture the armoured plating. |

The exit hatch in the cabin roof received extra reinforcement; additional detonationproof mats were integrated into the floor area. Special door-locking systems were installed to protect against undesired entry into the cabin, ones that only allow authorized entry into the secure cabin itself. Intercom systems provide trouble-free communication with the driver and the rear compartment, as well as with persons outside the bus. In addition to the driver's seat, 16 comfortable seats for accompanying persons were rebuilt into the rear area, four into the front. |

Precision work under difficult conditions. Extreme weights have to be fitted exactly, down to the millimeter. |

COMFORT
The secure cabin is furnished with a comfortable bed as well as an option for seating and conferences, i.e. with a table and swivelling first-class seats that can be adjusted individually. A hi-fi system, TV and video equipment offer opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. A separate automatic climate control system within the secure cabin provides for the right climate. |
